While significant fire activity continues across multiple geographic areas, more favorable weather has resulted in improving fire danger and fuels conditions in other areas. The National Interagency Coordination Center has seen a significant decrease in resource orders for the past several days. The availability of nationally shared resources is also increasing for most resource types. Due to these changes, the National Multi-Agency Coordinating Group decreased the national preparedness level to three (PL 3) this morning.
Nationally, 29 large wildfires are currently active and have burned 1,134,448 acres. About 6,700 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned to incidents, including 9 complex incident management teams, 121 crews, 298 engines, and 64 helicopters.
Wildland firefighters, two complex incident management teams and support personnel continue to assist with hurricane relief efforts in North Carolina. Two Canadian crews are assisting with suppression efforts in the Great Basin area.
