Posted: June 13, 2026
Jim passed away on May 28, 2026, following a fishing accident at Cascade Reservoir in Valley County, ID. He died doing what he loved best in a spot dear to his heart.
Jim was born and raised in Elk Grove, IL. He dreamed of becoming a mountain man and followed that dream West. He attended Utah State University in Logan, UT, where he earned a degree in natural resource management and wildlife biology.
His passion for the outdoors led him to a career in wildland firefighting. It was on the fireline where he met the love of his life, Michelle. Together, they built a life filled with adventure as they explored the mountains, forests, and rivers of Idaho, Alaska, and beyond. They married in 1995 and raised two daughters, Meagan and Sarah, passing on to them a deep appreciation for nature.
Jim dedicated his career to public service for the BLM and the USFS before retiring at age 57. Retirement brought him seven cherished years spent hunting, fishing, playing hockey, golfing, attending Kuna HS events, and enjoying family time at his cabin in McCall, ID. He will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, gentle kindness, and love of wild places.
Above all, Jim was a devoted husband, father, son, and faithful friend who lived life fully and left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Jim jumped the 1992 season in McCall.
