Gregg H. Schmidt (Cave Junction pilot)

Gregg was born on April 2, 1946, in Chicago. He lived a full and adventurous life before passing away peacefully at his home in Clovis, CA, on May 16, 2026.

Gregg served in the Air National Guard and built a remarkable career that reflected both his talent and passion for aviation. Over the years, he owned a logging business, worked as a smokejumper pilot at the Cave Junction base, served as an aircraft mechanic for several aviation shops, and shared ownership in his own aircraft-repair business.

He could fix almost anything and was happiest when working with his hands, solving problems, or spending time around airplanes and engines. Gregg loved riding and working on motorcycles, flying and being around airplanes, target shooting, running, and spending time at the coast.

Beneath his tough humor was a deeply caring man who valued friendship, loyalty, and family. He also wore his tattoos proudly, each one carrying its own story and piece of his life.
