Darrell Wittke (Missoula 1989)

Darrell died February 20, 2006, in a motorcycle accident in Helena, Montana. He attended Montana State University and was currently attending nursing school. After serving in the U. S. Army, Darrell was a BLM Smokejumper for 12 years in Boise, Idaho. He worked for the Great Falls Fire Department from 2000-2003 and at the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Fort Harrison from 2003 until the present. Darrell jumped at Missoula 1989-90 and at NIFC 1991-99.
“Darrell was a really good jumper. A big strong German heritage guy, the kind of guy who was really nice but you were pretty sure he could beat up most of the folks in the bar if he wanted to. Pretty sure he played rugby in his spare time in Missoula.
