George died November 16, 2013, in Decatur, Michigan. He was a 1963 graduate of the University of Montana and was commissioned in the US Navy in 1965. In 1984, George was the first non-flight officer to be designated Commanding Officer of a Patrol Squadron. He retired from the Naval Reserve in 1990 as a Captain.
George taught for 33 years in the Decatur Public Schools before retiring in 2001. After retiring, he joined the Decatur School Board as a trustee, a position he held until his death. George jumped at Missoula during the 1962 season.
