Lowell Ray Honey Jr. ( Missoula 1958 )

Ray died Oct. 18, 2016, in Dillon, Montana. He was born on July 7, 1938, in New Deal, Montana. Ray attended school in Darby, Montana, graduated in 1957, and then became a smokejumper for the next six years while he attended and graduated from the University of Montana in Missoula.

After graduating, Ray joined the US Navy and entered the Officer Candidate School. He continued on to a distinguished military career as a Naval aviator flying P2s and P3s. Ray had duty stations at home and abroad with locations in California, Washington, Texas, Florida, Okinawa, Midway Island, Virginia, Maine, the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon and Rhode Island.

Retiring from the Navy as a Commander, Ray came home to Montana, moved to Missoula and entered civilian life. He owned several business in Missoula and the Bitterroot Valley, which included Honey Jewelers and Lost Trail Hot Springs. Ray moved to Dillon in the summer of 2000 and helped start Peterson Storage. He was a private pilot, loved hunting and fishing, and thrived on being outdoors in general.

Ray jumped at Missoula 1958-63.
