PARADISE, Calif. – Firefighters are getting a handle on the Camp Fire in Northern California, with containment up to 60 percent.
The critical parts of the fire are in the Feather River Canyon near Grizzly Creek, according to Josh Bischof, Cal Fire operations section chief.
Indirect lines have been completed south of the fire to protect the Berry Creek area, and will be backfired when possible to strengthen that flank. Lines are holding around the rest of the fire.
The Camp Fire death toll was up to 76, with 9,700 houses, 191 apartment buildings and 367 businesses destroyed. The burned area was 149,500 acres as of Sunday morning. Officials hope for full containment by Nov. 30.
