Smokejumper Killed on Modoc N.F.

Redding Smokejumper, Luke Sheehy (RDD-09) was killed on Monday, June 10, around 1700 while working on a lightning caused fire on the Modoc N.F.

Sheehy was working on the Saddle Back Fire in the Warner Wilderness near Alturas. He was hit by part of a falling tree.

Sheehy is the son of Doug and Lynn Sheehy. Lynn Sheehy is the Plumas County Librarian. Doug Sheehy is an adjunct faculty in the music department at Lassen Community College in Susanville.

The Forest Service is still working with the Sheehy family to understand and honor their wishes for a memorial service for Luke. When the details are worked out with the family we will provide that information.

The U.S. Forest Service announced Saturday where well-wishers can send memorials to a family who lost a relative in a wildfire last week.
Donations can be sent to the Sheehy family, 2850 Main St., Suite 12, No. 386, Susanville, CA 96130.

Memorial Services for Luke are scheduled on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 1:00 pm at the Community Center in Westwood and on Sunday, June 23, at 1:00 pm at the Redding Civic Center.

From Wildfire Today:
Details on the agency memorial ceremony are currently pending. The ceremony is planned for June 23 at 1 p.m. at the Civic Auditorium in Redding, Calif. The Sheehy family has requested that family members, close friends, fire community and all those who want to honor Luke are invited to attend.

The family will be holding a separate memorial at the Walker Mansion Inn located in Westwood, Calif. on June 22 at 2 p.m.
