2013 NSA Scholarship

The National Smokejumper Association Scholarships are intended to provide financial support to students who are committed to obtaining advanced education. The applicants must be:

1. Direct family members of smokejumpers or smokejumper pilots who have died in the line of duty or military service or

2. Active smokejumpers or smokejumper pilots or

3. Direct family members of active smokejumpers or smokejumper pilots.

4. Currently enrolled in an accredited program that will lead to a college degree or other accreditation.

A narrative not to exceed one typewritten page addressing the criteria listed below must be prepared and emailed to Gary Baker (#406 360 8566) at by June 15th. The successful applicants will be notified by July 15th. Scholarship funds will be paid by the National Smokejumper Association to the educational institution of choice and are intended to be used for academic purposes such as: tuition, fees, room, board and/or books. Up to three $2,000 scholarships will be awarded annually.


1. Applicant must demonstrate financial need and submit a statement of estimated yearly earnings for the year applying.

2. Student must be in good standing, with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 at his/her college/university/trade/training school.

3. Applicant must describe their leadership style/ character/ service potential.

4. Applicant must explain intended future use of degree/training.
