Button Appointed To Lead Smokejumpers

John Button, a smokejumper for 31 years, has been named manager of the North Cascades Smokejumper Base.

Button has been acting manager of the base for the past six months, and is one of four year-round employees, at NCSB.

As manager, John will supervise 22 smokejumpers, although on August 19th, there were 80 smokejumpers working out of NCSB and the base had jumped over 70 fires this summer.

Button is the 5th manager at the base and feels he has the best job in the US forest service. John lives in Twisp and is married to Cindy Button, director of Aero Methow Rescue Service and have 2 teenagers.
